What do you do when you don’t have any plans for the weekend and you don’t want to stay home? Visit a book fair and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee! Thank heavens for friends I can call on for spur-of-the-moment things.

Yesterday, I went to Eastwood Mall for Megaworld’s Books & Brews, a coffee and book fair. I have no idea what to expect from the event, but I’m glad I took the time to check it out.

Coffee Paintings

We were lucky to arrive at Books & Brews when Sunshine, the beautiful lady behind the awesome coffee paintings, was just about to prepare for her demo. Geene, her sister, explained how the paintings were done. Of course, we wouldn’t miss the chance to have our picture taken with Sunshine.

I was very curious about how these paintings were done so I decided to stay and watch the demo. It was amazing!

Not only are her paintings one-of-a-kind, she is also recognized by Ripley’s Believe It or Not!

Book Blind Dates

You know what they say about not judging a book by its cover? It’ll be hard to judge any book at this stall as they’re all wrapped in black paper. To pick one, you’ll have to rely on the clue written on it.

Because I was feeling adventurous yesterday, I decided to buy one.

The Filipino Readercon was also at Books & Brews. If you’d like to trade some of your old books, visit them at the book fair. They have some books ready for swapping. Like the book that I got, their books are wrapped in Manila paper and you won’t know what you got until you unwrap it. There are also clues written on the cover.

Adult Coloring Books

There were so many stalls selling adult coloring books that I was almost tempted to buy one. I also saw an amazing coloring book set that comes with 48 pieces of colored pencils.

Bargain Books

For as low as 25 pesos, you’ll find a good book to add to your collection – that is if you don’t mind getting books with pages that have turned yellowish.  I didn’t mind at all. I got two books from this stall.

Coffee and Knickknacks

You don’t need to be a bookworm to enjoy the fair. You’ll find lots of other things, such as coffee (obviously), art kits, and cute knickknacks. If you’d like to enjoy a great cup of coffee, you have many options. Apart from Starbucks and Costa Coffee, there are some stalls selling craft coffee.

With so many titles to choose from, it’s hard to buy just one. Here are my book finds for the day.

I would have gotten a few more but I remembered the pile of unread books on our night table. I felt guilty hoarding books I might not have time to read.

Books & Brews runs from September 4 to September 12 at Eastwood Mall, Libis, Quezon City. Students and literature enthusiasts will enjoy tonight’s Literature Appreciation Night at 7 pm. On September 11, Meganon Comics will have a Visual Storytelling Workshop for those who want to become comic book artists. This will be followed by a Coffee Art demonstration by Pie Face. On the last day, September 12, there will be a 3D Street Art performance by Romy Valderama and a Story Book Workshop at 3 pm. If you’re a coffee lover, you shouldn’t miss Zak Yonzon’s Latte Art Workshop, which will be held on the same day at 5 pm.

Don’t have plans for next weekend? You know where to go.
