A few months ago, I celebrated my anniversary with Surefire Social, Makati. And yes, this is a late post.
Time really goes by fast when you love what you’re doing. My first year with SureMak had been a roller coaster ride. But amidst the trials, countless trackers, and endless huddles, I am still here. Why? I know I have not only found the right company, but also a group of people I can call family. Sure, (I’m going to be honest here) there were times when I couldn’t resist the urge to consider other opportunities. At the end of the day, however, I find that what I have with SureMak always holds more weight than what others could offer.
Right now, I can say I have found the perfect place for me. If you’re not sure whether you’ve found yours, I’d like to share my experience in SureMak with you.
You know you’re with right company when…
You Have Work-Life Balance
As they say, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
I’ve only been in a few companies, but I have never seen an HR department that promotes work-life balance the way our HR does. Though I may not be present on all activities, I appreciate that the company takes time to give the staff a chance to relax and have fun together.
Extracurricular activities are also great venues to promote camaraderie. I guess these activities are some of the reasons people at SureMak are close to each other.
Your Company Believes in You
Career growth is important for any employee. Apart from skills, support from the company is important.
SureMak has been supportive of me since day one. Everybody was always ready to extend a hand when I needed help. I know I still need to learn many things, but despite my shortcomings, the management had never failed to push me out of my comfort zone.
Your Managers Care About You
I was lucky to have managers who genuinely care about me. And yes, I would call that luck. It’s not all the time that you get to have an HR manager who would take time out to catch-up with you, who would stand beside you quietly as you cry out all your frustrations, and who would give you the best words of wisdom so you can carry on.
When I didn’t know how to handle problems, my division manager was always there to help me find the right solution. I initially hated how he would answer my question with another question. Later on, I realized it’s an effective way of improving my decision-making skills.
I remember the time when I took the exam at SureMak. This lady came in and greeted everyone along the short path leading to her office. When she saw me, she stopped and said, “Writer ka? Good luck. See you soon.” Later on, I found out she was the general manager. Sometime in July, she asked for a quick meeting with me. When I came to her office, all she asked was “are you okay?” It was one of the best talks I’ve ever had with any manager. To this day, she continues to inspire me with her courage to keep on smiling even during hard times.
If your managers inspire you and care about you, you’ve found your support group. Don’t let that go.
And finally, you know you’re with the right company when you’d still want to stay despite all the things you think the company lacks or should improve on.
You see, it’s like getting married. If you want to stay with the company for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in good times and in bad, then you’ve found your match.
