It’s that time of the year again! Many are looking into this year’s content marketing trends to make sure their strategies are up-to-date.
Whether you’ve just decided to get into content marketing or have been doing it for years, knowing content marketing trends for 2017 can help ensure effective and successful campaigns.
Here are trends to expect this year.
Last November, I talked about tapping industry influencers as a way to scale your content creation efforts. While this isn’t something new, influencer marketing has grown in popularity last 2016 and it will continue to grow this year. It’s a strategy where key personalities disseminate your brand’s message to a bigger audience.
A study conducted by Google shows that 6 out of 10 YouTube subscribers “would follow advice on what to buy from their favorite creator…”
Getting in touch with influencers can help extend your audience reach. In addition, good words about you from influencers give your brand their “seal of trust” — enticing more people to consider (and even choose) your brand.
Video and Visual Storytelling
Your audience is looking for value and connection to your brand. You can provide that through storytelling. And what better way to tell stories but through videos and images?
According to Contently, 69% of consumer traffic in 2017 will be video. By 2020, it will 82%. If you haven’t thought of adding videos to your content mix, this year is a good time to consider it.
Content that targets everybody, targets nobody.
Targeted content is still going to be hot this year, especially with all the content technologies available today.
Keep in mind that your audience is bombarded with hundreds of marketing messages and all sorts of content every minute. If you’re just throwing content out there in the hopes that a section of your target audience will pick it up, then you’re wasting time.
Get your audience’s attention by providing targeted content. Learn about your target market; understand their habits and online behavior, get to know their likes and dislikes. All these can help you create personalized content that your target consumers will surely engage with.
According to Domo.com, 400 hours of new video are shared on Youtube, 216,302 photos are shared on Facebook Messenger, and 2,430,555 posts are liked on Instagram every minute of the day. These values are expected to increase in the coming years.
Social is here to stay. If you’re not making the most out of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest and other social channels, then you’re missing out on a lot of opportunities.
For 2017, value, influence, and connection should be the core of your content marketing campaigns. Get started on your content marketing plans and campaigns with these trends in mind. 2017 is going to be an exciting (and hopefully successful) year for all of us content marketers.
